I’m a member of Generation Z. That means the only Republican nominee for president, in my experience, is Donald Trump. You might be a strong supporter of Trump, or you may be like me and confidently say he is not your cup of tea.
Now, that’s not to say I can’t appreciate President Trump’s policies and his appointment of the excellent Supreme Court Justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. But I have been repeatedly disappointed in his weakened pro-life stance this election cycle.
Despite the wavering pro-life stance of our Republican nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris has been consistent in making abortion her main priority in elected office. Under her reign in various positions as California Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and now as Vice President, the California native has repeatedly targeted pro-life advocates, supported policies that would strip away conscience protections for pro-life medical professionals, and force pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise for abortion.
Oregon has voted for the Democratic nominee for President in every election since 1988 and is not predicted to change this year. As pro-life voters, it can feel discouraging knowing our vote may not have much impact on the presidential race. However, it is crucial to remember that in state and local races, the pro-life vote can change the outcome of the election.
Over the years, some in the 2022 election cycle alone, pro-life candidates here in Oregon have won numerous races by less than one thousand votes, some by only a few hundred. When I tell you your vote matters, I mean that sincerely: your vote can literally mean the difference between a pro-life candidate winning or losing.
I have had the great pleasure of meeting and interacting with each of our pro-life candidates who have earned the endorsement of Oregon Right to Life PAC. I can assure you they deserve your vote! Once elected, these candidates will be directly involved in creating and opposing policies that affect the lives of unborn babies and vulnerable adults in our state. It is our duty to ensure our voices are included in the outcome.
No matter your feelings regarding our presidential options, make sure to pick up your ballot and vote for the congressman or woman, state senator, state representative, county commissioner and local candidates who will represent you in their elected office. Electing candidates who will prioritize pro-life values is crucial in advancing a culture that respects life in Oregon.
